Happy Holidays Everyone!

Preparations for the arrival of our guests, the coming 2nd birthday of my son, and of course the upcoming Christmas festivities are what's keeping me super busy. I barely have enough time to blog, but somehow I am able to find the time to log-in to my facebook account. It's really funny.

I got to chat at my facebook wall with one of my friends and mentors and we got to discussions of memory lane, depression and plans.

It got me thinking.

This year's Christmas is my first time low ever.

Low in the sense that I don't have the moolah to splurge on people I love.
By saying people I love, that actually consists of me first then my kids and then my hubby then all my relatives who will wish us a merry christmas.

So far, I think this is the first Christmas where I am not prepared.

Unprepared and under stress.

I have now decided to resume some of the things I did best or at least made me feel better.

I have also planned to think of and make a business plan for the next year.

So, not blogging and yet interacting with people in fb got me thinking and gave me a great idea.

But I'm not giving up on blogging. Thankfully, through blogging I think I got my hubby a christmas present he'll like.

How do you spend your holidays?

Short Post: Going on a Blogging Break.

I'd love to blog everyday, host the meme and join the memes. I miss blogging a lot but visitors are coming. I am hoping to come back with a big bang. I am planning to streamline this blog as much as possible. So, please bear with me. Happy holidays Everyone!

Turning into Kids Again

I am turning into a kid again. If you are one of those like me, a stay at home mom whose kids live and breathe the television and have no other television to spare. You would know that Mickey and Minnie celebrated their birthday last November 18. There was an 'honest' series of tv shows yesterday and that there's Alien Swarm (Ben 10) premieres on tv as of the moment. You would also know that there was a Disney Pixar Movie Magic back to back.

Finally, I got to watch Wall-E, a movie featured as top pick in Tuesday's Couch Potatoes.
I'm trying to post pictures. My pc won't allow me.
Oh well. I got to enjoy The Incredibles, Wall-E, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, just caught Monsters Inc. and got to introduce these characters to my kids.

Oh, High School Musical 3 is going to be shown on Dec.5. Plus every 2 pm on Monday to Friday you get to watch Disney Original Movies like Cadet Kelly, Princess Protection Program and so much more on Disney Channel.

Tempted!

I've deleted all my other blogs. I'm only left with one. Rereading one of my favorite blogs - Just About Anything and her journey to personalizing her templates made me want to redo my whole blog again. I'm itching to just dump the rest of what I've done and go for it. But, I'm holding back. Instead I want to open a whole lot of other blogs again and just try the templates there, one by one. I found a great list of resources for 'scrapbook' feel templates which I prefer rather than the technical ones.

For Blogger templates:

For Wordpress premades:

I'm so so tempted.

One more thing. I found a great tutorial site and hundreds of wonderful fonts at www.kevinandamanda.com. You guys should go and visit.

Real Drama at Home

Life is so hard nowadays. My mom hired a housepainter to paint newly refurbished ceilings. Our family driver actually did the hiring. He found a painter from one of those who usually worked in our house. Long story short, before the end of the afternoon, one cellphone went missing. Fortunately, it's not mine or my mom's. Though I wonder if anyone would be interested in getting a motorola phone with no bluetooth or no memory card, just a really creepy camera and doesn't even make a sound. I'm losing my point.
Upon the discovery that a cellphone was missing, we all went looking for it and avoided pointing fingers first. The shocking part was the phone wasn't ringing even if it was fully charged so everyone became suspicious. There was only one suspect since there was only 1 stranger among us. The family driver searched high and low from areas where they worked and lo and behold, he found the phone unit but not the battery or the back cover. He confronted the housepainter and was interrogated. By the 4th time the question was asked, he finally admitted to taking the phone. My mom asked the driver to get the person who recommended the housepainter. Calmly explained that what he did was wrong. That had he not done that, there were other opportunities for work in our house because repairs and painting jobs are fairly a regular thing if your house is 20 years old.
Sad to say, he used his 1 year old child as an excuse. That he was doing it for his kid. It's just sad. No one is safe anymore. You give a man an honest job, he was going to get paid and he screws it up by taking something from us. He lived on the street where my aunt lived. He knows my aunt and cousins. It's disheartening that something like that could happen. It's also scary to just let a stranger into your house when you expect them to do honest work and they end up stealing from you.
Lucky for us that we discovered the phone missing almost right after it was taken. Perhaps, it was also a mistake to have left it to a place easily accessible. I think the housepainter thought that everyone in the house were strangers and that the place was busy enough that a phone that went missing would go unnoticed. That was his mistake. We knew that no one in their right mind would take that phone except him.

TCP: Animals Rule!

Whenever I think of animal movies, I always cry. I don't think there was an animal movie which didn't touch a chord with me. Except perhaps Jaws and those animals that turn too large and turn on those who fed and took great care of them.

I don't remember this movie but when I first read the topic it was all I could think about as a movie to present. The unforgettable thing about this movie is that this is the first animal movie I ever watched that I could remember where I knew I cried buckets!

Here's a clip if you don't remember what I'm talking about.

Letters That I'll Never Send: I Encourage You...

Dearest Winnie,

You've embarked on one of the greatest adventures in life. You've just gotten married and you're now going to be a Mom. A little person is growing inside of you. I can imagine the difficulties that you will be facing. The life you have as you know it will certainly change. Your priorities must change too. Life will be hard, but I believe in you. I really do. I think you have a big chance in changing your life for the better even if life has thrown you a lot of curveballs. Or else, I hope I'll be able to help in the change that will come to your life. As I promised long ago, perhaps when I own my own business. You have exceptional skills in the kitchen. You've learned the secrets of the trade. I hope that if I can't help you, you be able to put that skill into good use. I am supposed to encourage. I hope that you try to dream. When you dream, dream Big and equip yourself for whatever journey you must take. I'll be missing you. I hope Mak doesn't bring you too far.

Girls Talk: Favorite Pasttime

My favorite thing to do to kill the time, ever since the beginning of time... is to read books. We're not rich but I got to borrow tons of books. I reached high school and I'd collect, trade, rent pocketbooks. I loved Sweet Valley High, and R.L. Stine. When I went to college, we had a book rental program in the dorm. You get to earn from the books you lend. A percentage from the program's earnings went to the owner. In College, I discovered Anne Rice which solidified my friendship with the Vampire Society ( a group of 4 young women so into Anne Rice's vampires). We would debate, discuss the books, scour bookshops, find used books. Ebay wasn't available then. Now, I'm much more older... I'm into ebooks. Electronic books are much easier to handle since I just use my phone for all my reading pleasure. Reading ebooks can be expensive or cheap or free. It depends on the reader. I've seen ebook sellers from ebay to official book sites, to multiply and of course the free sites. I am the middle type. If I'm obsessing over an author and there's no cheap seller then I pay. That's my rule. For authors I really like, I try to pay so they earn from me. To show my appreciation for them.

Other things I do to pass the time is facebook apps. I just discovered that most of my hs classmates have accounts there. I like Cafe World and Farmtown. I also love offline games like Diner Dash, Avenue Flo, and The Sims.

TCP: Commander-in-Chief

Short and sweet: My pick for this one is when Harrison Ford plays the man of the hour, and the Commander-in-Chief. It's an old movie that gets shown in reruns at AXN sometimes. I liked that he was the man of the hour. He didn't succumb to pressure. Glenn Close as the VP here was amazing for me. The story is Air Force One is hijacked, in it is the President and his immediate family (wife and child). Gary Oldman is an amazing villain. Plus, the child gives quick quips as dialogue!

You see the sacrifice people will willingly do for a President as well. It's a great plot with a lot of twists and turns. The amazing part is the President is the one who tried to save everyone else. My favorite scene would be when the fighter jet says it has become Air Force One.

Note: I also like Commander-in-Chief the tv series. It's about a woman as a president. Geena Davis is great in this series. Donald Sutherland as the ambitious Speaker of the House is amazing as well which gives the series its depth and twists. I like how she became the President. The incumbent President gets an aneurysm, and is debilitated. The incumbent asks her to step aside since she's an independent and wants the speaker of the House to become the President. It's just great. She met obstacles from all sides but still emerged as president.

Sidenote: I got Featured!

If you click on the badge above, you get to see an article all about me! Yay!
Shameless plug ba??

It's actually promoting my blog!

I hope you join my blog carnival... coz last week no one won the $3 because no one joined.

My luck... I get to buy ebooks for myself.

That's all I have to research what movie is my pick for Kikamz Couch Potatoes.

Get me a school keepsake book!

My cousins finally made plans to come to the Philippines! Yay! The last time they were here was April 2005. I remember it well because my cousin had his wedding on April 9 of that year, and mine was on the 23rd. My son and daughter are finally going to meet their cousins. I now have 2 nephews. I'm glad that I think Maegan will be able to handle talking to her 'foreigner' cousins.

My mom asked me to think real hard on what I'm going to ask them to bring here in the Philippines. They'll be spending Christmas in Manila but they plan on spending a few days here in the province. We're sort of a side trip.

I'm considering asking them to buy some school keepsake book in different grades for Maegan and Paul when they go to school. A nap mat for my  son's future teacher so she can implement nap time in her toddler school or to my sister-in-law. Hmm. What could be more useful? A nap mat or a penny laine baby book? I think my journalism major might find the baby book better since she really is the artistic type. You should see her christening gifts to my children. She gave me photo mosaics of my kids with scrapbooking details. Totally awesome! I think she might enjoy scrapping her baby's life and writing about it too in her baby book.

That's it. I've made up my mind. I can surprise my sister-in-law with the baby book. Maybe get a nap mat. I would really like to scrap the life of my kids. I just wish I had supplies. Well, I have to learn how anyway. I can only barely digi-scrap anyway.

I'm still thinking of chalk mats and monogrammed personalized thingies my kids could bring to school and I'm really obsessing over toy microphones. I don't know why. Plus, I have to do research on how to teach Maegan to read. She's showing signs of interest to reading. Do you know of any sites? Which again, reminds me that I have to get our printer fixed for her activities.

Looking Forward to...

Wow, Time flies really fast. Pretty soon, it's gonna be Christmas. I wonder if anyone would get me a car or a pickup truck for Christmas. I'm still worried about floods. I'm now getting over paranoid about it. Maybe a Chevrolet Silverado will help me survive. It's a great looking pick up truck that could be used in offroad sort of stuff.

I'm also getting addicted to Dollhouse. I wonder if they'd extend it. I like the plot, though I do wish that there's a little bit more and missing other characters that were in Tru Calling. They use a lot of vans in the series. Its what they use to pick up their dolls. Maybe, they get it fixed in a Dallas auto repair. They use it to drop the dolls off, pick them up, the dolls even use them to escape, plus the vans are geared with super high-tech equipment to monitor the dolls. Totally cool!

I'm currently reading True Blue by David Baldacci. I'm loving the characters but I'm just in the first few pages. It's fairly interesting enough. A chief of police as a sister (Beth). A cop who went undercover in Narcotics but got sent to prison for 2 years (Mace). The only thing that can make Mace happy is her Ducati. High speed chases, attempts to murder her, well she better make sure that the brake job in her high powered Ducati is infallible for her escapes. I wonder if Roy (the male lead, I presume) is really a good guy and I think the other cop...T something is a bad guy. Plus, I really hate Mona who is out to persecute the sisters.

I'm looking forward to finishing my novel, praying that my son gets really better soon, his sister to like to go to school. I wonder if there's something worth looking forward to for Christmas.

I'm looking forward to New Moon. Yes, I'm still a vampire fan. I want to see more Jasper Hale. Please!
But I guess, there's more of him on Eclipse than in New Moon.

I have to make my christmas list. Haven't done any shopping. No moolah to shop....oh well.
Just rambling on here. Feel free to unsubscribe. Kidding!

Girls Talk: Chocolates!

Being a diabetic does not stop me from eating chocolates. It just deters me from constantly eating chocolates since I'm not in Manila and can go to stores like SM where there's abundant supply of sugarfree items. I get lucky if I can find sugarfree chocolates. Once in a while, I can find these at Watsons in Nepomall,Dagupan. When I frequented Baguio a long, long time ago, I used to buy these at the Commissary in Camp John Hay. But you had to pay in dollars. When I was really craving for it, I ask my twinsis(nonbiological) to get some for me.

When I get lucky, my auntie who's in New York, sends some of those above and those below.
These are the chocolates I get to taste and enjoy.I think my aunt goes to drugstores and ask for sugarfree candies, that's what she used to tell me. Toffee's are really yummy though.

Anything sugarfree, I have to go to Dagupan which is about 30-45 minutes away. If the 2 are unavailable, I get my chocolate fix on these items which I can easily find in 2 groceries in Dagupan.

These cookies are great and Murray's provides different kinds of sugarfree cookies. There are usually 3 to 4 varieties available in the groceries that I can find.

What's your brand of chocolate?

TCP: Wild Wild West

I'm keeping my entry short and simple this week since I don't have the time to blog. My little Paul is sick with fever and most likely suppressed colds. We're all praying that he feels better soon. I am just glad that even if he is sick he can still be playful and a handful. I just hate it when he starts to feel hot again. I can see how it affects his chest.

Wild Wild West - of cowboys, cowgirls, gunslingers and gold. I'd love to say that my pick would be Will Smith's Wild Wild West but no, though I love the official soundtrack of that movie. So danceable!

I love this because it's the girls holding the guns. With great actresses like Madeleine Stowe and Andie MacDowell plus Drew Barrymore and Mary Stuart Masterson is something I couldn't resist to post!
It's a Rated R movie and I watched it on cable, so I guess I was old enough to watch it when I did, since I didn't see this when it was released in 1994.
Each girl has a story. I remember Andie Macdowell as the one who loves to act like a Southern belle. To know what I'm talking about, I suggest do a little digging at imdb.

For more lively westerns, click on the banner above. What's on your couch this Tuesday?

Bits and Pieces.

It's funny how my 2 kids like to smile to the camera. But my daughter loves to take the camera away from me. Unfortunately for me, she doesn't know how to use the viewer. What she usually snaps a picture of is the lower portion of the person she's taking a picture of. My son, on the other hand has now learned to react to the world smile and click. The photos are his instant reactions.

I feel as if I've neglected blogging. I've been wasting my time with facebook applications. I think Calvin is a bad influence. I think because he posts the top facebook games in his blog, I keep checking it and now, I'm beginning to enjoy those games. Particularly Age of Castles, which is not on the list yet... and I'm liking Cafe World, Farm Town, and I also have an account in Farmville. I'm a new recruit in Mafia Wars, but they are right, lots and lots of people are playing it.

There are 2 tv series that I am trying to watch right now too, which is another waste of my time, but it's the only way I relax after picking up and doing everything with my kids non-stop. One is Fringe, I like Joshua Jackson since Mighty Ducks. It's shown on CS9 here in the PI, have you seen it? I'm still on season 1. It's a modern version of X-Files.

One is Dollhouse. It isn't shown in the Philippines. Reminds me of the movie, Paycheck by Ben Affleck with Uma Thurman. Dollhouse is an organization where humans become programmed dolls. You are rented out, a personality is placed in you. Then your memory gets wiped after the transaction. Eliza Dushku of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the other slayer) and of Tru Calling is the lead star. Her name is Echo. They turn you into whoever the client wants you to be.Watch the clip, you might get curious. The only bad news is , it just might only have 2 seasons. 13 episodes in 1 season, so about 26. Currently shown in the states is episode 5 of season 2, if I remember correctly.

Maybe, I'll ask for the dvd of this one... where to buy?? where to buy??

Now, what do you think?

GT & Letters that I'll Never Send: Dear Bartender

Dearest Bartender,

                           Give me the usual!
                            Oh wait, you're new here.
I'm Mys, Mister Bartender and my Favorite Drink is Pepsi Max on the Rocks.
My love affair with drinks that have no sugar began when I was diagnosed as a diabetic. But did you know that if you ask my twin (nonbiological) that my favorite vice, besides food is drinking. Hmm... could she be correct? I remember that I started the alcoholic drinking at my 2nd time in college ( so that was when I was 21) I barely touched alcohol at U.P. but Dagupan was such a different place to be. I remember meeting my favorite bartender. I got cheap drinks then because I frequented the grocery and he'd mix up the drinks using the cheapest liquor available. Or if we had the cash, we'd head on out to Padis. At Padis I love the Voodoo. I think it's the cheapest one by the pitcher. So my dearest bartender, mix me up some voodoo, but then hey, my bs might go up (blood sugar) so I'll stick to the Max on the rocks. Got it?

P.S. This is a 2 in one Meme entry - for my Letters That I'll never Send and GT

Still Worried

I still worry about storms. Maybe because I saw the terrifying devastation that Ondoy and Pepeng brought with them, not only to houses or farm lands but most specially Ondoy's effect to a lot of cars. I wonder if having an off-road vehicle would fare better in a flash flood. Will it stand the mud and the water? I bet that the head gasket of any vehicle is the first to go, or maybe the batteries?
Maybe a Ford Explorer would survive, but it would surely be a mess to clean. Its big and luxurious. It must be pricey to have it fixed. I bet that a Los Angeles auto repair can handle anything whether sand, mud, hail stones, a broken window or a flooded vehicle. Makes me wonder about what happened to vehicles in New Orleans due to Katrina.
It is just saddening that you work so hard to save up and buy a vehicle. The mere fact that all can be loss in a fierce act of mother nature or from something we humans do to ourselves. I don't think insurance covers being flooded, or your car being flooded. Does it?
Mother nature has a way of sending a message. Global warming is real and disasters are really on their way. We should all at least try to go green. The first step would be: Sort your garbage!

TCP: Drama

I had to check what the others were writing first before I launched on to my movie pick of the week. Yes, each week, this is definitely one task that I truly enjoy. Writing about my favorite movies. But then, you may feel disappointed since most movies I've enjoyed are obscure or repetitive. True enough, those who joined this blog carnival did their research and really picked out the tearjerkers. Seriously, who wouldn't cry in Schindler's List? My mom even bought herself an original vcd of that one - a time when pirated ones were rare and unheard of. Plus, it was pricey way way back when. I loved that one and love Liam Neeson for it.

But I always go back to my favorite actor. For this week, again, forgive me I almost always have 2 picks.
Not so much dramatic as in the wailing kind, I still think it's worth a mention would be Good Will Hunting.
I love the fact that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck both wrote the script. I loved Minnie Driver in this movie.

For the complete summary with spoilers to boot, click here. Suffice to say that it's an engaging movie. A genius, hiding in a janitor at MIT, who can prove theorems, my husband loves to dream about. The quotable quote, " I am going to see about a girl." Plus this one too:
Will: What do I wanna way outta here for? I'm gonna live here the rest of my fuckin' life. We'll be neighbors, have little kids, take 'em to Little League up at Foley Field.
Chuckie: Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way but, in 20 years if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house, watchin' the Patriots games, workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill ya. That's not a threat, that's a fact, I'll fuckin' kill ya.
Will: What the fuck you talkin' about?
Chuckie: You got somethin' none of us have...
Will: Oh, come on! What? Why is it always this? I mean, I fuckin' owe it to myself to do this or that. What if I don't want to?
Chuckie: No. No, no no no. Fuck you, you don't owe it to yourself man, you owe it to me. Cuz tomorrow I'm gonna wake up and I'll be 50, and I'll still be doin' this shit. And that's all right. That's fine. I mean, you're sittin' on a winnin' lottery ticket. And you're too much of a pussy to cash it in, and that's bullshit. 'Cause I'd do fuckin' anything to have what you got. So would any of these fuckin' guys. It'd be an insult to us if you're still here in 20 years. Hangin' around here is a fuckin' waste of your time.

Chuckie is Ben Affleck and Will is Matt Damon.

One that I also really like but am too lazy to write about is another one with Robin Williams. In this movie, Robin Williams plays one who admitted himself as a mental patient, declares himself cured, then goes on to become a doctor to try and help people.

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms,
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

This is poem by Pablo Neruda. It is Sonnet 17 of Neruda’s 100 Love Sonnets available in English translation by Stephen Tapscott. It was a poem that Patch was trying to say to Carin to tell her how much he loves her. The part that always made me cry in this movie is when Carin dies, after trying to become open to patients. A psycho killed her. Patch was never able to finish saying this poem to her. He was only able to do so at her funeral.

GT: Favorite Accessories!

What you are seeing is a photo of my favorite watch and my favorite bracelet. Taken with hubby's phone - please forgive the quality of the photo. I love my watch because it looks and feels like a bracelet.I usually wear the face of my watch on the inside, so outside you get to see the lock.  The one at the back of the watch is another one of my favorite accessories that I bought online.

The photo from the seller would look like this..

Want one for your own? Visit Shen's Addictions. I'm not sure if she's still selling though.
This is a photo of our wedding rings. I don't have an engagement ring. But my mom did give me a ring which looks like an engagement ring. But then, wait, this is about favorites...so why am I rambling on?
