What have I learned while watching those footages of people trying to pass the ravaging water?
That when there's a threat of a storm, prepare a " Go Bag" ( I learned this from the Safety Patrol at Playhouse Disney). Everyone gets a "Go Bag"
Contents of a " Go Bag "
- flashlight
- batteries
- battery operated radio
- mineral/bottled water
- energy bars/snacks
- an umbrella ( since it's about storms and rains in the philippines)
- medicines ( for headache, diarrhea, colds, vitamins, and if you have any other ailment like hypertension and diabetes)
- money and identification cards
- Charge your cellphones, your spare batteries too if you have those.
- Charge emergency lights.
- Buy candles, and matches.
- Stock up on lots of water
- Stock up on snacks.
- Stay on your roof, rescue will come later.
- If you do intend to stay on your roof during a storm, tether yourself securely to your house.
- Wear a raincoat for goodness sake! Or please bring an umbrella to shield yourself from the rain and the storm.
People who have the guts to help at their own personal risk and people who take advantage of the situation.
Always.
This is the first time in such a long time that Manila ever experienced a flooding of this proportion or magnitude. Not only is it in Manila but in Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal and other places as well. The bad news is there's another storm coming.
It all boils down to how we take care of our environment.
We should learn by now what causes the flooding.
It's pollution, deforestation of our forests, and bad city planning.
Did I miss anything?
What should I do during a storm?
Pray.
